Basketball Recap: Somerset Comes Up Short

After flying high against North Star last Friday, Somerset came back down to earth. The Somerset Eagles had to suffer through a 72-44 loss at the hands of the Penn Cambria Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 468th, while the Panthers are ranked 230th).

When it comes to explaining why Somerset lost on Tuesday, don't look at Eve Housley. Despite the final result, she posted 20 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Housley has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 16 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Riley Holmes, who put up eight points along with five rebounds and four blocks.

MaKenna McCoy was a one-woman wrecking crew for Penn Cambria as she went 9-for-17 en route to 22 points and six steals. McCoy has become a key player for Penn Cambria: the team is undefeated when she posts at least five steals, but 6-10 otherwise. Addy Hite was another key player, putting up six points in addition to seven boards and six steals.

Somerset has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. As for Penn Cambria, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-10.

As of now, neither Somerset nor Penn Cambria have any future games scheduled.
