Baseball Recap: Valwood Has No Trouble Against Taylor County

Valwood made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Taylor County, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Valiants blew past the Bulldogs 11-1 on Tuesday. Considering the Valiants have won six matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Camden Crump spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Valwood let Maddox Coile and Chase Helfer run wild. Coile scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Helfer went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. Valwood is 5-1 when Coile posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Dywan Powell also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Valwood and bumps their season record up to 9-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Taylor County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-8.

Coming up, Valwood will be playing at home against St. John Paul II at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Valiants' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Taylor County, they will head out to face off against Fort White at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
