Soccer Game Preview: Del Norte vs. Torrey Pines

The Del Norte Nighthawks will head out to square off against the Torrey Pines Falcons at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Del Norte's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for six straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Last Thursday, Del Norte and Mt. Carmel finished up on equal footing with a 1-1 draw.

Del Norte's goal came courtesy of Makenna San Jose, which was the first she's scored this season.

Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Torrey Pines duked it out withCanyon Crest Academy on Friday. Torrey Pines' defense stepped up to hand Canyon Crest Academy a 1-0 shutout. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 75th, while the Ravens are ranked 627th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Torrey Pines' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-4. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those three contests. Del Norte's draw gives them a new season record of 4-6-4.

Del Norte beat Torrey Pines by a goal in their previous meeting back in December of 2021, winning 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Del Norte since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
