Basketball Recap: Sophia Killian's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Truckee over Loyalton

After soaring to 60 points the game before, Truckee was a bit more limited in their game on Saturday. They took a 32-25 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Loyalton Grizzlies. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Wolverines came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while the Grizzlies are ranked 596th).

Truckee lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Sophia Killian, who posted seven points. Elsa Voegele was another key player, putting up two points along with six blocks and five rebounds.

Loyalton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hayden Fisher led the charge by posting 11 points and three steals. That's the most steals Fisher has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Catherine Petterson, who earned 12 points in addition to five boards and three blocks.

Truckee's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Loyalton, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-2.

Truckee has already played their next contest, a 36-28 defeat against Quincy on the 13th. Loyalton and Paradise Adventist Academy will compete for holiday cheer at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The game will give the Grizzlies their first taste of in-conference action this season.
