Basketball Recap: Escondido Charter Piles Up the Points Against Central

It's playoff time, and Escondido Charter had no trouble coming through when it counted. They breezed past the Central Spartans to the tune of 71-37 on Wednesday. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 18 games by 25 points or more this season.

Escondido Charter's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kami Gillis led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 11 points and nine assists. Gillis has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 15 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Harper Mowrey, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds.

Gillis wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Escondido Charter was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. Escondido Charter is 23-5 when they've passed the ball that well.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rhyanna Velasco-Martinez, who posted six points and five boards. Victoria Zamora was another key player, putting up five points and five steals.

Escondido Charter pushed their record up to 23-8 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 33 points. As for Central, their loss dropped their record down to 17-13.

Escondido Charter has already played their next contest, a 71-69 defeat against Christian on the 1st. Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
