Baseball Recap: Bacon County Comes Up Short

Bacon County fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Fitzgerald on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Purple Hurricane by a score of 2-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Bacon County has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 19-2 Jeff Davis and 18-2 Jeff Davis (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 73.2% over those games). As for Fitzgerald, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-10.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Bacon County is set to face off against their familiar foe Brantley County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Fitzgerald will take on rival Jeff Davis at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Purple Hurricane 3.3, the Yellowjackets 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
