Basketball Recap: Merced Starts off Right with Win over Ceres

Merced took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Monday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Ceres Bulldogs 60-29. For the Bears, this counts as revenge for the 48-45 victory the Bulldogs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2024.

Averie Steverson went supernova, going 8-for-12 to rack up 18 points and six rebounds. She has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Samantha Barragan, who posted 11 points in addition to seven boards and four steals.

When it comes to explaining why Ceres lost, don't look at Lilly Staggs. Despite the final result, she scored 12 points.

Having lost for the first time this season, Ceres fell to 2-1.

Merced has already played their next contest, a 55-26 win against Orestimba on the 25th. As for Ceres, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-49 defeat against Sierra on the 3rd.
