Baseball Game Preview: Midlakes Screaming Eagles vs. Newark Reds

The Midlakes Screaming Eagles will head out to take on the Newark Reds at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Midlakes' last matchup with Geneva could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Saturday. The Screaming Eagles came up short against the Panthers, falling 8-1. The Screaming Eagles have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Meanwhile, Newark didn't have quite enough to beat Palmyra-Macedon on Friday and fell 3-2.

Cody Forjone spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Newark is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-9 otherwise.

At the plate, Jayce Baker made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

Midlakes' defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Newark, they now have a losing record of 9-10.
