Football Recap: Chatsworth Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Chatsworth extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-9. They took a blow against the Birmingham Patriots, falling 46-8. While losing is never fun, the Chancellors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 915th, while the Patriots are ranked 343rd).

As for Birmingham, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 7-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.3 points on average over those games.

Birmingham's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jimmy Renteria led the charge by picking up 74 receiving yards and three scores, while also throwing for 70 yards and one TD on only six passes. Those three receiving touchdowns gave Renteria a new career-high. Birmingham also got a significant boost from Braylen Morgan, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 91 yards.

Chatsworth and Birmingham are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Chancellors will face off against Roosevelt at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Birmingham, after each having a week off, they and Kennedy will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on the 14th. The Patriots' defense better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 31.1 points per game this season.
