Recap: Lynwood Knights vs. Downey Vikings
The Lynwood Knights had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top against Downey by a score of 51-39. For Lynwood, this counts as revenge for the 39-33 loss Downey walked away with the last time they faced one another on January 10th.
Taliyah Mcferson was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kimiko Kennedy, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Downey lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Symantha Barnett, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Barnett has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Vaughn, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
Lynwood pushed their record up to 14-11 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Downey, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-12.
Lynwood won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Village Christian at 4:30 p.m. on January 27th. Hopefully Village Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday. As for Downey, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Gahr at 5:15 p.m. Gahr will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 317th, while Downey is ranked 114th).
