Basketball Game Preview: Triton Hawks vs. Terry Sanford Bulldogs

Triton is 0-10 against Terry Sanford since December of 2018 but things could change on Friday. The Triton Hawks will square off against the Terry Sanford Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Triton is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against E.E. Smith on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Triton came up short against E.E. Smith, falling 53-27. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 334th, while the Golden Bulls are ranked 124th).

The losing side was boosted by Nashara McNeil-Watlington, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 17 points.

Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Terry Sanford's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell 67-58 to Grace Christian.

Triton will need focus on slowing down Breonna Roaf, one of several Terry Sanford players who made an impact when they last played. She posted 18 points in addition to seven assists and seven steals. Roaf is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 17 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Jaidiah Blake, who went 9 for 20 en route to 20 points along with seven boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Terry Sanford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 49 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Terry Sanford's defeat ended a 15-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 14-3. As for Triton, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.

Triton took a serious blow against Terry Sanford in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 72-19. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Triton was down 37-13.
