Preview: Saint Francis Lancers vs. Pioneer Mustangs
Saint Francis has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Pioneer Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Saint Francis focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Wednesday.
Last Wednesday, Saint Francis beat Fremont 62-53. Given Saint Francis' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 56th, while Fremont is ranked 246th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Maia Jimenez, who scored 18 points along with three steals. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Allison Dauer, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Pioneer entered their tilt with Oak Grove with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Pioneer took down Oak Grove 48-33 on Thursday.
Saint Francis pushed their record up to 4-0 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Pioneer, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
Saint Francis barely slipped by Pioneer in their previous meeting back in February, winning 46-45. The rematch might be a little tougher for Saint Francis since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
