Football Game Preview: Salina Central Mustangs vs. Newton Railroaders + How To Watch

The Salina Central Mustangs will venture away from home to take on the Newton Railroaders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Salina Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Newton likes a good challenge.

On Friday, Salina Central humbled Eisenhower with a 49-20 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Mustangs have posted against the Tigers since August 31, 2018.

Salina Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Griffin Hall, who threw for 267 yards and four TDs while completing 76.2% of his passes, and also rushed for 78 yards on only eight carries. Those 267 passing yards gave Hall a new career-high. Cooper Reves was another key rusher, rushing for 236 yards and one touchdown while picking up 9.8 yards per carry.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Salina Central was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 337 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 159 rushing yards in six consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Newton lost to Goddard at home by a 36-17 margin on Friday.

Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Salina Central, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.

Everything came up roses for Salina Central against Newton when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 57-7 victory. In that contest, the Mustangs amassed a halftime lead of 29-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
