Football Game Preview: South Barber Chieftains vs. Golden Plains Bulldogs + Official Tickets

The South Barber Chieftains will square off against the Golden Plains Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. South Barber will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

South Barber is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Rolla, posting a 79-0 victory. The Chieftains' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

South Barber's win two weeks ago was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Garen Cantrell, who picked up 63 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 66 yards and one score. Cantrell also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing one fumble, making three total tackles (1.0 for loss), and defending two passes in addition to snagging three interceptions which he returned one-yard for a touchdown. Austin Swonger was another key passer, throwing for 71 yards and three TDs on only six passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: South Barber was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 209 rushing yards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 95.6 rushing yards per game earlier this season, but in their last five contests they've averaged 195.7.

South Barber didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. Cantrell led the group effort, picking up three of those interceptions all by himself. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Golden Plains walked away with it. They slipped by the Pirates 1-0 on Thursday. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

South Barber's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Golden Plains, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
