Baseball Recap: Wakeland Wolverines vs. Celina Bobcats
Wakeland won against Walnut Grove on Friday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. The Wolverines walked away with an 8-4 win over the Celina Bobcats. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wolverines.
Aidan McGilligan tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cruz Veloz, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those RBI were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Will Vetkoetter, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
The victory got Wakeland back to even at 2-2. As for Celina, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.
Wakeland wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 8-0 loss against McKinney Boyd on the 21st. As for Celina, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Frisco at 5:30 a.m. on Thursday.
