Soccer Game Preview: Oakdale vs. Christian Brothers

The Oakdale Mustangs will take on the Christian Brothers Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Oakdale is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their defense stepped up to hand Del Campo a 1-0 shutout. The result kept the Mustangs happy, as they haven't lost a game since January 29th.

Their one-goal win came courtesy of Ashlyn Splettstoesser, who's now up to six this season.

Meanwhile, Christian Brothers gave up the first goal last Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. While the 1-1 score might suggest a draw, it was Christian Brothers who was credited with the win. Christian Brothers got it done in the shootout by posting six goals to Sierra's five. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Falcons' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 251st, while the Timberwolves are ranked 121st).

Oakdale is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those six matchups. The win made it two in a row for Christian Brothers and bumps their season record up to 7-13.
