Preview: Coastal Academy Stingrays vs. Monarch Royals
The Coastal Academy Stingrays will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Monarch Royals at 4:00 p.m. Hopefully Coastal Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Coastal Academy came up short against Foothills Christian and fell 39-30. Coastal Academy has not had much luck with Foothills Christian recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Heiress Afalava, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 50% of Coastal Academy's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of London Afalava, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds and three steals.
Monarch posted their biggest victory yet this season on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 39-16 margin over Chula Vista Learning Community Charter. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Monarch has posted against Chula Vista Learning Community Charter since January 22, 2015.
Coastal Academy's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Monarch, their win bumped their record up to 2-8.
Coastal Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Monarch in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, winning 26-19. Does Coastal Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Monarch turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
