Football Recap: Jay Piles Up the Points Against Southwest

Jay came tearing into Thursday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30 points), and they left with even more momentum. They really took it to the Southwest Dragons for the full four quarters, racking up a 35-7 win. The Mustangs pushed the score to 21-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Dragons had little chance of recovering from.

Tajari Wellington was his usual excellent self, throwing for 166 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only nine passes, while also rushing for 30 yards and one score.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 11 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Jayden Casiano, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Jay's record now sits at 8-1. As for Southwest, their loss dropped their record down to 7-2.

Coming up, Jay is taking a road trip to square off against Southside at 7:30 p.m. on the 7th. The Cardinals will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last. As for Southwest, they will host Cigarroa at 7:30 p.m. on the 7th. The Dragons will be up against the Toros' rather soft defense (which has allowed 37.33 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
