Football Recap: Labette County Grizzlies vs. Wellington Crusaders
Labette County lost against Wellington back in September of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Grizzlies fell 25-14 to the Crusaders. While the Grizzlies didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Crusaders 7-0 in the first quarter.
Labette County's loss came despite strong showings from Nolan Nash and Barrett Hestand. Nash picked up 102 receiving yards, while Hestand picked up 110 receiving yards and one touchdown. Hestand's longest reception was for an incredible 72 yards.
Colton Elmore was nothing short of spectacular for Wellington: he rushed for 89 yards and a pair of TDs on only nine carries, and also threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns. Jalik Armstrong helped out on the ground, rushing for 93 yards.
Having lost for the first time this season, Labette County fell to 3-1. As for Wellington, they pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Labette County will take on Fort Scott at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Wellington, they will square off against Augusta on Friday.
