Recap: Holtville Vikings vs. Palo Verde Valley Yellow Jackets
The Holtville Vikings suffered their biggest loss since December 1, 2023 on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Palo Verde Valley on the road and fell 57-23. Holtville was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Palo Verde Valley apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Despite the defeat, Holtville had strong showings from Jasmine Garewal, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and three steals, and Vanessa Gonzalez, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and four blocks. Garewal is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 13 games she's played.
Holtville has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Palo Verde Valley, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Holtville's road trip will continue as they head out to face Coronado at 11:30 a.m. on January 20th. As for Palo Verde Valley, they will take on Central at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
