Softball Recap: Crete's Loss Ends Three-Game Winning Streak on the Road

Crete dropped to 26-7 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell 6-3 to the Norris Titans. The Cardinals were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Titans earlier this season, when they won 5-2.

Kacey Dunaway made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Makesha Smith was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

As for Norris, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

On Norris' side, Reese Behrends made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Behrends has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in September.

In other batting news, Leah Ozenbaugh was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple. Another player making a difference was Hailey McMurray, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Norris beat Crete by a score of 4-2 later that day.
