Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Ashley Ventura and Zoey Hess Lead Oxford Academy to Victory

Oxford Academy won the last time they faced Artesia and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Oxford Academy Patriots put the hurt on the Artesia Pioneers with a sharp 54-29 victory. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 532nd, while the Pioneers are ranked 1138th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Oxford Academy to victory were Zoey Hess and Ashley Ventura. Hess went 9 for 16 en route to 19 points and seven boards, while Ventura posted six points along with eight rebounds, eight steals, and seven assists. The dominant performance gave Ventura a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Angela Tran, who scored five points and nine assists.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Oxford Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for Oxford Academy and bumps their season record up to 15-8. As for Artesia, they are on a 17-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Oxford Academy has already played their next matchup (against Glenn), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Artesia didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 83-25 loss against Whitney on the 24th.
