Baseball Game Preview: Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs vs. Rome Wolves

The Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs will face off against the Rome Wolves at 5:55 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Kennesaw Mountain has five straight victories, Rome has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Kennesaw Mountain lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Rome, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's contest. George Lutz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jake Phelps, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits. The team also got some help courtesy of Isander Poventud, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.

Phelps wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Kennesaw Mountain kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in five consecutive matches.
