Football Game Preview: Southwestern Heights Mustangs vs. Holcomb Longhorns

Southwestern Heights hasn't had much luck against Holcomb recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Mustangs will take on the Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. Southwestern Heights has given up an average of 41.7 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Southwestern Heights came up short against Cimarron on Friday, falling 40-14.

Although Southwestern Heights took the loss, they still got scores from Eilian Baeza and Jackson Stanfield.

Meanwhile, Holcomb strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 20-14 W against Hugoton.

Southwestern Heights better focus on containing Cooper Cranston and Chasyn Cosner as the pair were huge in Holcomb's win. Cranston rushed for 131 yards and one TD while picking up 7.7 yards per carry, while Cosner rushed for 106 yards and one score.

Holcomb was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 237 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 209 rushing yards in six consecutive matchups.

Holcomb's record now sits at 7-0. As for Southwestern Heights, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Southwestern Heights was taken down by Holcomb 34-0 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
