Baseball Recap: Plainfield Takes a Loss

The home team had won the previous six meetings between Plainfield and Putnam, and Putnam kept the tradition alive. The Panthers fell 9-5 to the Clippers on Monday. The Panthers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Clippers earlier this season, when they won 7-6.

Mason Tavenier was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple.

Tavenier wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jace Arriaga, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Plainfield's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 5-11. As for Putnam, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-8 record.

Plainfield wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 loss against Killingly on the 13th. As for Putnam, they have also already played their next game, an 11-1 defeat against Hale Ray on the 12th.
