Basketball Game Preview: Vaux Big Picture vs. Martin Luther King Cougars

Vaux Big Picture will square off against the Martin Luther King Cougars at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Vaux Big Picture's offense hasn't had much luck over their past three games, but Monday's matchup will give them a chance to turn things around.

Last Wednesday, Vaux Big Picture slipped by First Philadelphia Prep 20-19.

Vaux Big Picture's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Princess Downes led the charge by putting up nine points along with six steals and five boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Downes has scored at least a third of Vaux Big Picture's points. Another player making a difference was Julie Cruz, who posted four points in addition to 15 rebounds and three steals.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Martin Luther King beat Roxborough 37-32 on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

Martin Luther King found their leader in sophomore Janae Savage, who earned 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of London Harris, who put up seven points.

Martin Luther King is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.8 points per game. As for Vaux Big Picture, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-5.
