Basketball Recap: Victory Christian Center Now 4-1 over Last Five Games

If New Garden Friends wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Victory Christian Center, they should've done a better job of containing Justyn Whitfield. The Victory Christian Center Kings blew past the New Garden Friends Bears 50-30 on Friday thanks in part to Whitfield, who went 8 for 14 on his way to 17 points and three steals. The matchup was his ninth in a row with at least ten points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Abubakar Cham, who posted seven points and 14 rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down 12 or more in the last five games he's played.

Several Bears players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kingston Clifton, who earned nine points. Another player making a difference was Curtis Russell, who put up six points.

Victory Christian Center is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.8 points per game. As for New Garden Friends, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Victory Christian Center will take on Lake Norman Christian in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on December 20th. Lake Norman Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 matchups -- so hopefully Victory Christian Center likes a good challenge. As for New Garden Friends, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 84-67 defeat against Calvary Day School on the 17th.
