Effingham County and River Ridge squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Effingham County had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 2-0. The Rebels' defeat signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

Luke Edwards spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

Effingham County's loss dropped their record down to 30-6. As for River Ridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-13 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: River Ridge beat Effingham County by a score of 6-0 on Thursday.
