Football Recap: Gadsden Takes a Loss

Gadsden faced Lovington in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Panthers were dealt a 58-28 defeat at the hands of the Wildcats. The Panthers' loss continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Gadsden lost, don't look at JUAN RIOS. Despite the final result, he rushed for 219 yards and one score while picking up 10.4 yards per carry.

Jayden Gutierrez produced another solid effort rushing for 211 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 235 yards and four TDs while completing 81.8% of his passes for Lovington. Gutierrez's longest rush was for an impressive 66 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Elijah Rivero was Gutierrez's top target, picking up 103 receiving yards and three scores.

Gadsden's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Lovington, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season.
