Southeast of Saline has gone a perfect 6-0 against Ellsworth recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Trojans will be playing at home against the Bearcats at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Southeast of Saline's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
On Friday, Southeast of Saline blew past Halstead, posting a 55-14 win. Fans of the Trojans have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Southeast of Saline to victory, but perhaps none more so than Grady Gebhardt, who picked up 143 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 87 yards and three scores. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 86 yards. Another signal caller making a difference was Tiernan Ptacek, who threw for 266 yards and four TDs while completing 72.7% of his passes.
Southeast of Saline didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Ptacek and Bryson Lippold. Lippold got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks on offense in their last six contests, Ellsworth finally came back down to earth on Friday. They took a 16-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Beloit. The game marked the Bearcats' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Southeast of Saline will have to contain Tucker Goss as he made an impact in Ellsworth's last game. He rushed for 169 yards and one score while picking up 7.7 yards per carry. Goss is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 111 every time he's taken the field this season.
Ellsworth's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 5-2. As for Southeast of Saline, their victory bumped their record up to 7-0.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Southeast of Saline has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 256.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Ellsworth struggles in that department as they've been averaging 345 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Southeast of Saline against Ellsworth in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 44-8 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Bearcats' Landin Johnson, who rushed for 126 yards and one touchdown. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Trojans to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
