Baseball Recap: Elbert County Beats Commerce for Their Fourth Straight Win

Elbert County waltzed into their matchup on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They walked away with a 14-9 win over the Commerce Tigers. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 12-6 win on Friday.

Jackson Black looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, Branson Bonds and Sam Amabile did most of the damage at the plate: Bonds went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Amabile went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Amabile has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Rylan Brown, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Elbert County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .423 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Elbert County pushed their record up to 21-10 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Commerce, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 14 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-24 record this season.
