Basketball Recap: Charli Calas' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Linfield Christian over Murrieta Mesa

Linfield Christian lost against Murrieta Mesa back in November of 2018 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Linfield Christian Lions took a 57-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Murrieta Mesa Rams. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Linfield Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Charli Calas, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards. Calas has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 15 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Auti Cabrera, who went 7 of 10 en route to 17 points and three steals.

Murrieta Mesa was led to victory by Jolie Hanna and Janesa Johnson. Hanna almost dropped a double-double on nine boards and nine assists, while Johnson went 6 of 11 on her way to 14 points along with six steals and five assists. Johnson is becoming a predictor of Murrieta Mesa's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 4-2 (and 3-7 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Serena Peoples, who went 7 of 13 on her way to 14 points and eight boards.

Linfield Christian's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Murrieta Mesa, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-9.

Linfield Christian will host Arrowhead Christian at 6:00 p.m. on January 10th. As for Murrieta Mesa, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Chaparral at 5:30 p.m.
