Football Recap: Robertson Cardinals vs. St. Michael's Horsemen
Robertson came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They had to suffer through a 40-6 loss at the hands of the St. Michael's Horsemen. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico football rankings (they are ranked 37th, while the Horsemen are ranked third).
Nathan Gonzales threw for 129 yards on 13 of 23 attempts. Marcus Montoya was his top target, picking up 60 receiving yards.
It was another big night for Kamal Stith, who threw for 221 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 10.5 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 131 yards while picking up 8.2 yards per carry for St. Michael's. Those 131 rushing yards gave Stith a new career-high. Ryan Hunt was Stith's top target, picking up 93 receiving yards and three scores.
Robertson has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season. As for St. Michael's, their victory bumped their record up to 10-0.
Robertson has already played their next matchup, a 29-8 win against Hatch Valley on the 8th. Hopefully St. Michael's paid attention to the Cardinals' contest: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Cardinals at 1:00 p.m. on the 15th.
