Softball Recap: Wilber-Clatonia Has No Trouble Against Fairbury

After losing to Fairbury the last time they met, Wilber-Clatonia decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Wolverines put the hurt on the Jeffs with a sharp 11-1 victory on Saturday. With that win, the Wolverines brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Kariss Rosenthal made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since September 2nd. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, Gabby Vlcan was excellent, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Mollie Bates, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

Wilber-Clatonia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Wilber-Clatonia and bumps their season record up to 12-11. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Fairbury, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season.

Wilber-Clatonia will be playing in front of their home fans against Southern/Diller-Odell at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Fairbury, they will head out to challenge Highway 6 at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Jeffs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trailblazers have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
