Football Game Preview: Mandarin Mustangs vs. St. Augustine Yellow Jackets

The Mandarin Mustangs will take on the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mandarin comes in on four and St. Augustine on nine.

On Friday, Mandarin didn't have too much trouble with Oakleaf as they won 31-14.

It was another big night for Shaunqueze Foster, who rushed for 137 yards and two TDs on only 13 carries. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in October of 2024. Kyree Wilson got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mandarin was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 286 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 205 rushing yards in four consecutive contests.

Mandarin didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Brysen Wright, Mario Pratt, and Wilson picked up one apiece. Wright got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Augustine). They blew past Ridgeview 66-6 on Friday. The Yellow Jackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Mandarin better keep an eye on Brenton James. He was instrumental in St. Augustine's win, throwing for 253 yards and four touchdowns on only 16 passes. Another player making a difference was Julio Santiago, who picked up 123 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Mandarin's record is now 8-1. As for St. Augustine, their record now sits at 9-0.

Mandarin came up short against St. Augustine in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 38-26. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
