Basketball Recap: Leyton Skates Past Minatare with Ease

A well-balanced attack led Leyton over Minatare in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Leyton Warriors blew the Minatare Indians out of the water with a 74-12 final score. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 games by 21 points or more this season.

Leyton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zaili Benish, who went 13 of 23 to rack up 31 points in addition to eight assists and five steals. Benish has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last 27 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Fortune, who went 9 for 14 on her way to 20 points along with seven boards and three steals.

Benish wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Leyton was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Minatare only posted two assists.

Leyton pushed their record up to 15-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.9 points over those games. As for Minatare, they are on a 29-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11.

Leyton has already played their next matchup, an 81-34 victory against Gordon-Rushville on the 1st. As for Minatare, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 36-25 loss against Banner County on the 7th.
