Baseball Game Preview: Monroe Golden Tornadoes vs. Peach County Trojans

The Monroe Golden Tornadoes are taking a road trip to face off against the Peach County Trojans at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Monroe is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.

Things were looking good for Monroe after they put the first points on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Bainbridge, falling 10-2. The Golden Tornadoes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Monroe saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nehemiah Tinch, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits Tinch has posted since back in April of 2024. Kyle Vicks also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Even though they lost, Monroe was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bainbridge only posted a batting average of .167.

Meanwhile, Peach County had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. Everything went their way against the Patriots as they made off with a 13-3 win. 13 seems to be a good number for the Trojans as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Zach Veillon and Zion Hudson did most of the damage at the plate: Veillon went a perfect 1-for-1 with four RBI, while Hudson scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3. Hudson is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavion Childs, who scored two runs and stole Three bases.

Peach County pushed their record up to 12-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Monroe, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Monroe has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Peach County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
