Basketball Recap: Santa Ana Valley Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

While it was all tied up 8-8 at halftime, Santa Ana Valley was not quite La Quinta's equal in the second half on Tuesday. They fell 31-20 to the La Quinta Aztecs. The defeat continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Aztecs: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the loss, Santa Ana Valley saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jayleen Roldan posted 11 points. Another player making a difference was Jocelyn Guadalupe, who had six points.

La Quinta had a senior duo take command as Katelyn Vo put up eight points in addition to 12 boards and five steals and Katie Nguyen posted 13 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Nguyen continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dung (Krystal Tran, who had three points and eight rebounds.

Santa Ana Valley's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-12. As for La Quinta, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.

Santa Ana Valley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 36-26 win against Capistrano Valley on the 9th. As for La Quinta, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 41-6 victory against Orange on the 10th.
