Softball Recap: Druid Hills Takes a Loss

Druid Hills dropped to 5-10 on Wednesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 9-2 to the Northview Titans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Titans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-1 back in September.

De'Shauna Riddick was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 5.1 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Northview, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-16. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

Like Druid Hills, Northview also got a great game from a two-way player: Jordyn Burdick. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. That's the most strikeouts Burdick has posted since back in September of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Alexandria Bombard was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Stella Weaver was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Coming up, Druid Hills will square off against Marist at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The War Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Red Devils' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Northview, they will face off against Lithonia at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.59 runs per game on average), something the Titans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
