Preview: Godinez Fundamental Grizzlies vs. Segerstrom Jaguars
The Godinez Fundamental Grizzlies will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Segerstrom Jaguars at 6:30 p.m. on January 19th. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Godinez Fundamental posted their biggest win since November 16, 2023 on Tuesday. They blew past Garden Grove 55-25 on the road. Given Godinez Fundamental's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 444th, while Garden Grove is ranked 996th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Godinez Fundamental found their leader in underclassman Julissa Mota, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Mota scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Daniela Vasquez, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Segerstrom put the finishing touches on their 13th blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 59-32 victory over Katella. The victory was familiar territory for Segerstrom who now have four in a row.
Godinez Fundamental is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season. As for Segerstrom, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-5.
Godinez Fundamental didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Segerstrom when the teams last played on January 3rd, but they still walked away with a 49-44 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Godinez Fundamental since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
