Baseball Recap: Garrett Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Fort Wayne Bishop Luers, Garrett was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Prairie Heights Panthers a 13-0 shutout. That's more bragging rights for the Railroaders, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Garrett got a great performance from Aiden Sullinger as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Sullinger has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ari Hippensteel, who fired off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for Garrett: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 9-10 otherwise. Kayden Bush was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Garrett was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Garrett's victory bumped their record up to 12-10. As for Prairie Heights, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Garrett will face off against Heritage at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Railroaders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 10.4 runs per game this season. As for Prairie Heights, they will take on Fremont at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
