Baseball Recap: Illini West Gets the Win

Illini West proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by eight) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Canton Little Giants, sneaking past 7-5. For the Chargers, this counts as revenge for the 1-0 win the Little Giants walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2018.

Cash Jones was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Aiden Hocker also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Illini West has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. As for Canton, they dropped their record down to 4-12-1 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Illini West will head out to challenge Quincy Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Chargers will need to watch out since the Raiders have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups. As for Canton, they will square off against Dunlap at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
