Baseball Game Preview: Gainesville Red Elephants vs. Lanier Longhorns

The Gainesville Red Elephants will face off against the Lanier Longhorns at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Gainesville has four straight victories, Lanier has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Gainesville's win against Lanier wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Gainesville sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over Lanier on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Red Elephants have posted since February 24th.

Gainesville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Beckett Brown, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave Brown a new career-high. Andrew Rice was another, scoring a run and stealing a base.

Gainesville's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-11. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.67 hits in those games compared to only 5.29 in the others. As for Lanier, their loss dropped their record down to 4-14.
