Central Catholic waltzed into their matchup on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Hempfield Area Spartans 59-7. The Vikings' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Jay Ross Szczypinski was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 99 yards and one TD on only ten carries. Those 99 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Jayden Alexander, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Central Catholic was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 280 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 169 rushing yards in four consecutive games.

Another reason for the win was Central Catholic's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Angelo Pugliano and Manny Regus, who racked up four sacks between them. The game marked Pugliano's first with multiple sacks this season.

Central Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Hempfield Area, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.

The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Vikings 14, the Tigers 11.2) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Hempfield Area will face off against rival Canon-McMillan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
