Baseball Game Preview: Brookstone Cougars vs. Westfield School Hornets

The Brookstone Cougars will face off against the Westfield School Hornets at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The last five games Brookstone has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Last Thursday, it was close, but Brookstone sidestepped Strong Rock Christian for a 5-3 victory. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Luke Lowery made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Lowery was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Luke Vael looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Harrison Baker, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gray Jones, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Pinewood Christian typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Westfield School proved too difficult a challenge. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Patriots. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hornets.

The win got Westfield School back to even at 13-13. As for Brookstone, their victory bumped their record up to 20-5.

Brookstone took their win against Westfield School in their previous meeting on April 10th by a conclusive 9-2 score. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
