Centura had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Central City Bison a 3-0 shutout. This was a revenge game for the Centurions: when they faced off against the Bison back in September, they had to take a 5-2 defeat.
Not much got past Calleigh Sundberg, who gave up just two hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Central City off the board. Sundberg has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lauren Suntych, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 13 games. Kaelyn Hudiburg also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Centura's win bumped their record up to 19-7. As for Central City, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 19-7.
Coming up, Centura will challenge Hershey at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.27 runs per game on average), something the Centurions will no doubt try to take advantage of.
