Basketball Game Preview: Montgomery Aztecs vs. Escondido Charter Tigers

The Montgomery Aztecs will take on the Escondido Charter Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Montgomery saw some tournament action two weeks ago. They walked away with a 47-40 victory over La Jolla.

Montgomery got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Genevieve Whitehead out in front who posted 14 points in addition to five assists and three steals. Another player making a difference was Paula Zumstein, who had 12 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.

Montgomery smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Escondido Charter entered their tilt with Valley Center on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Everything went their way against the Jaguars as they made off with a 55-29 victory. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 26 points or more this season.

Escondido Charter pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points per game. As for Montgomery, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Montgomery didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Escondido Charter when the teams last played back in March, but they still walked away with a 55-51 victory. Does Montgomery have another victory up their sleeve, or will Escondido Charter turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
