Basketball Game Preview: Seaside Spartans vs. Santa Catalina Cougars

Seaside is 3-0 against Santa Catalina since December of 2014 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Seaside Spartans will host the Santa Catalina Cougars at 5:30 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 12 consecutive losses for Seaside and seven for Santa Catalina dating back to last season.

On Wednesday, Seaside lost to Palma on the road by a 38-19 margin. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1285th, while the Chieftains are ranked 520th).

Meanwhile, Santa Catalina played a tough game on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by St. Francis 59-15. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-8.

Santa Catalina's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Seaside, their loss dropped their record down to 1-14.

Everything came up roses for Seaside against Santa Catalina when the teams last played back in December of 2017, as the team secured a 63-23 win. Will Seaside repeat their success, or does Santa Catalina have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
