Football Recap: Carlsbad Falls Short Against Ranked Las Cruces + How To Watch

Carlsbad faced Las Cruces in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Cavemen/Cavegirls lost 53-28 to the Bulldawgs. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since October 25, 2019, but that streak is no more.

When it comes to explaining why Carlsbad lost, don't look at BROCK WRIGHT. Despite the final result, he rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. WRIGHT is becoming a predictor of the Cavemen/Cavegirls' success: when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns the team is 3-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Carlsbad also got help from ROBERT CASTANEDA, who showed off his sure hands for 85 receiving yards.

Daniel Amaro continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Las Cruces, rushing for 246 yards and four TDs on only 15 carries. Amaro's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 101 rushing yards. Another player making a difference was Gunnar Guardiola, who threw for 182 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 88.9% of his passes.

The defeat snapped Carlsbad's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-4 record. As for Las Cruces, they pushed their record up to 9-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Carlsbad will venture away from home to take on Hobbs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cavemen/Cavegirls will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least 31 points in their last four matchups. As for Las Cruces, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Centennial at 7:00 p.m. The Bulldawgs' defense better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 35.8 points per game this season.
