Basketball Recap: Centennial Now 11-1 over Last 12 Games

Centennial hadn't done well against Liberty recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Centennial Golden Hawks walked away with a 50-39 victory over the Liberty Patriots. For the Golden Hawks, this counts as revenge for the 49-41 win the Patriots walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Centennial's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aubrey Baldoz, who posted four points in addition to seven boards and four steals. Baldoz is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Keke Shaw, who put up ten points.

Centennial smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 17 offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Centennial is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Liberty, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

Centennial and Liberty should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Centennial (ranked 121st) will meet Stockdale (ranked 904th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Centennial is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.4 points per game this season. Similarly, Liberty will square off against Garces Memorial at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 658 places (421 vs. 1079).
